Summary

This article explains how to configure the AST Publisher in the EchoSystem Server (ESS) in order to provide closed-captioning of Echo360 presentations.

Solution Overview

There is a helpful video tutorial on this web site: http://www.automatic...aption/echo.htm , next to the line

“Configure your Echo to work with your CaptionSync Account. See our tutorial video.” Please note that the QuickTime Player must be installed in order to view the tutorial.

An AST account is required in order to carry out the following steps. Please contact AST at 877-278-7962 to sign-up for an account.

There are 3 parts to configuring closed-captioning:

1. Generate a public encryption key
2. Enroll that key on the AST account
3. Enroll that key on your ESS

Solution

1. Start up PuttyGen.exe (or another SSH Key Generator). PuttyGen.exe can be downloaded from http://www.chiark.gr.../download.html. In the parameters section, choose "SSH2-RSA," and use "1024" for the number of bits. Move the mouse around the window when prompted to create randomness for the key. The public key that is generated is for the AST site, and the private key that is generated is for your ESS. Highlight the public key and copy it (Ctrl^C).

2. Open a web browser and visit http://www.automatic...tion/index.htm. Log into your AST account. Click the "SSH Keys" link on the left-hand navigation. Click "Add Keys" and paste in the public key which you copied to the clipboard. Click "Add Key". Go to the "Submit" link on the left-hand navigation. Choose "Web" (for the echo system), and click the "Advanced Settings" button. Under "Chosen output", make sure "Apreso XML File" is one of the chosen outputs, then save as default, and apply changes. Log out of AST account.

3. Log into your ESS Server. Go to the Configuration -> Publishing tab. Click the "Add" button and select "Closed Captioning and Transcript". Choose an appropriate name for the publisher (eg - "AST"). For "Server Name", enter "services.automaticsync.com." For "Account Name", enter your AST user ID. To get the "Private Key", go back to PuttyGen, click "Conversions" (at the top menu of PuttyGen), "Export an openSSH key", and acknowledge that you don't have a passphrase (you do not, in fact, want one). Save it to a location on your hard drive and make a note of this location. Open the Private Key using a text editor (eg - Wordpad), copy the entire text that appears in Wordpad, and paste it into the "Private Key" field on your ESS. Click "Save".
